Services, Programs & Products
Our Honeybee Sanctuary was established in 2001 as a place where bees are able to live according to their own natural behaviors, impulses and life-cycle. Here bees are honored and revered as teachers who reveal to us the ancient truths and new awareness needed to move back into a harmonious relationship with Mother Nature.
Compare our humane, sustainable practices with those of conventional/commercial beekeepers. LEARN MORE. |

Tours and ProgramsGet into the field! Come and visit the bees.
Children, tourists, beekeepers and bee-curious are all welcome. Custom personal tours as well as scheduled workshops are open to all, whether you want to meet the bees for the first time or to deepen your connection with these marvelous creatures. LEARN MORE. |
Because sometimes our golden friends choose their new home in a place that doesn't work for us... in walls, under roofs, in electrical boxes. I can remove and relocate most swarms and colonies to our sanctuary, or help you set them up in your garden.
Due to the global die-off of Honeybees, every wild/natural swarm is of critical importance to their survival as a species. Wild rescue colonies build up our genetic 'bank account'. Please contact us for bee removal services. |

Swarm SeasonArtemis Smiles Sanctuary is featured in Swarm Season, an "impressionistic documentary" currently being screened nationally and internationally!
Over the course of three years, director & producer Sarah Christman and cinematographer Zara Popovici captured the work we are doing to save wild, endangered bees and breed disease-resistant colonies, resulting in a stunning feature-length film. Learn more about the film, including where to view it or how to schedule a screening in your area, at swarmseason.com. |

How you can help the bees
In accordance with our Sanctuary practices we harvest bee products only when it is beneficial for the bees, such as to renew their combs, or to remove excess pollen and honey. We always leave them more than they need for their own use.
As a result our exquisite varietal honeys and other products are seasonal and limited. Contact us to see what varieties we have available to share with you. Yes, we ship! LEARN MORE. |
Be a Bee BuddyYou don't need to keep bees to love and help protect them.
Just by visiting this website and educating yourself, you make a difference! There are plenty of easy ways to help save the bees and other pollinators. We need the bees, and they need us... a partnership that has lasted thousands of years. LEARN MORE. |
Donations made to Artemis Smiles Honeybee Sanctuary allow us to continue to support the long term health and vitality of the bees.
All contributions directly support the work we do at the Sanctuary. Wild bee rescues, the construction of alternative & bee-friendly hive bodies, educational programs for children and adults, and plantings of nectar and pollen rich forage are just a few of the many ways your gift will help the bees.

Happy People
I am a traveller who came to Big Island in hope to meet the bees and to learn all about them. How grateful I am to have met Alison! I spent 3 weeks with her, in beautiful Ka'u. Not only did I have the chance to learn how she respectfully takes care of "her girls," but I also got to witness her spiritual ways of talking and interacting with them. Her philosophy and practices deeply resonated for me, as I knew deep down in my heart, that it is possible to care for bees without all the fuss of bee suits, expensive equipment and medications. I also got to participate in a highly complex bee rescue and relocation - a wonderful hive thriving in a small cave under a house, whose owners had tried to kill them by a ton of poisonous 'insect killer' powder. Let's say that I was shown just as much love and devotion when she crawled down there to take them out. With that experience in mind forever, I go back to Quebec love in my heart for the bees in my yard to come. |
